Mets and Kid Fitness team up for "Kid Fitness Education Day at ...

FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The New York Mets and Kid Fitness, public television's award-winning health and fitness show for children, will host more than 5,000 students from New York City elementary and middle schools for "Kid Fitness Education Day at Shea" Wednesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. prior to the Mets' game against the Colorado Rockies.

"Kid Fitness Education Day at Shea" is an interactive program that combines physical activity and nutrition components, along with a 'Healthy Game Plan for Life' program, to keep children physically fit in order to help fight childhood obesity.

The Kid Fitness cast and Mr. Met will lead students in a physical activity program that follows NASPE (National Association for Sport and Physical Education) guidelines. Students will warm up and participate in exercises including hip rotations, wishbone stretches, seated squats, baseball swings, shoulder stretches, isometric chest presses and overhead arm stretches.

Is the Expanded Manhattan Associates and IBM Relationship a ...

An announcement last week by supply chain software vendor Manhattan Associates and IBM caught our interest mostly as it relates to the prospects for so-called "best-of-breed" software, which in general refers to software that is not from one of the major ERP providers like SAP or Oracle.

The prospects for best-of-breed software have been a subject of much debate among industry analysts, software vendors, and customers, as many companies standardize on an ERP system for most business applications, and vendor consolidation continues.

Manhattan Associates and IBM have had a long relationship, dating back to Manhattan’s original solutions being based on IBM’s AS/400 platform. But the latest announcement indicates an accelerated partnership, in which IBM will be more active in helping sell and implement Manhattan’s logistics and supply chain planning solutions, both in North America and especially in other parts of the globe.

A rebirth in Dover

To walk, or drive, along Dover's Bassett Highway -- it's a downtown street notwithstanding the name -- is to see an area that is strikingly underdeveloped.

That's why we like a plan by the Trammell Crow development company to build 485 residential units in an area to be bordered by a riverfront park. Luring new residents to town would be a boon both to the downtown business district and to town coffers.

Dover has a lot to offer. The town boasts an eclectic mix of restaurants and night spots. Bus and train service to Manhattan is easily available and an interstate highway, Route 80, is two miles away. We have no doubt those who like an urban-like setting would be attracted to Dover.

And contrary to what we've seen in some other towns, a majority of officials and residents seem to like the idea.

Trooper saves choking child in Manhattan

NEW YORK - A New York state trooper is being hailed as a hero after saving the life of a toddler who was choking at a car show at the Jacob Javits Center, state police said yesterday.

The 22-month-old Lodi, N.J., girl was attending the New York International Auto Show about 5 p.m. Saturday at the convention center when her parents noticed she was turning blue and not breathing.

Trooper Eric J. Tyson responded and took the toddler from her father and began to perform life-saving techniques, police said. He cleared a blockage and the girl soon regained consciousness.

The girl was taken by ambulance to St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan, where she was treated and released.

Tyson is one of several troopers who work at the convention center and help provide security.
